Mentally breaking out of a sales slump can be a daunting task for even the most experienced of jewelry sales professionals.
When faced with the recent studies that show over 90% of a sales slump is mental it is easy to throw your hands up in the air in frustration.
You are the captain of your destiny in many ways so let’s not abandon the ship just yet.
There are areas in your control when it comes to mentally breaking out of your sales slump.
Mentally Breaking Out Of A Jewelry Sales Slump
– You can only control your attitude.
You cannot control the ebb and flow of clients through the store, however; you can firmly control your attitude when you are with a client.
The quote that “Attitude determines Altitude” quickly comes to mind.
Are you feeling defeated before you greet the client?
If you feel that way then your chances of a sale diminish quickly.
A large part of jewelry selling comes down to your energy and excitement.
If you are lacking these then your sales will be lacking.
Take time off the floor right now to change your thought process if not then each opportunity that doesn’t result in a sales will shove you further down the slump.
Don’t come back until you have overcome your attitude.
Seriously, I mean that.
If it takes a longer lunch so be it.
If you don’t change your attitude then nothing else will work.
– Remember past big sales.
Take time to remember the big sales you have had in your career.
You closed those big sales for a reason.
Unfortunately, we gloss over that fact and proceed to throw ourselves into a “What have I done lately” mental tailspin.
Sit down in a quiet spot with paper and pen.
Thoroughly outline the details of that big sale.
Be sure to jot down what you said, what you did, and how the client reacted.
What you are going to quickly find out is that it was your skill that made the sale and not luck.
Keep those notes for the next time the “slump monster” raises its ugly head.
– It is a skill and not luck.
Lets set the facts straight about skill and luck.
Luck is short term, skill shows itself over the long haul.
Too many sales associates get mentally caught up in this notion of luck being with them or not.
They go to lunch and someone else sells a diamond engagement ring.
If you are in a slump you immediately think it was bad luck on your part.
You have got to stop this thought process right now.
Everyone catches a break and everyone misses a break.
Over the long haul, it evens out.
What does matter is your skill.
Concentrate on your sales presentation and leave luck to Las Vegas.
Unfortunately, no one is immune to a sales slump.
New sales associates or seasoned pro alike can fall prey to the damaging effects.
The good news is there are steps that every jewelry sales professional can take today to mentally break out of a sales slump.
